Near-Real Time Imagery

 

The provision of near real time imagery has been promised in the remote sensing world for some time but it has not eventuated for the high resolution sensors. An obstacle is US policy that very high resolution imagery can not be released for commercial purposes until at least 24 hours after acquisition.

SAR provides the surest way of determining flood extents and the ability to plan response accordingly. Apogee NEXTIMAGE™ is the ideal decision support tool for geospatial management. NEXTIMAGE™ is a 3-D visualisation software allowing integration of vector, raster, and real time spatial data sources into a single 3D display all with global reach. While global Landsat data sets and a digital elevation model (SRTM) are incorporated, the user can request high resolution satellite images and/or superior digital elevation models for the area of interest. These appear as separate layers in the software.

Vector layers such as road maps, land use maps and point data can be overlaid. On-screen digitising is also supported for interactivity and to define boundary conditions for tracking applications.

 

Digital Elevation Models for Modeling

Satellite imagery draped over an IFSAR DEM. Such high resolution models are essential for effective emergency management.
